Frequently asked questions

What can I expect during my eye exam?

You can expect a thorough evaluation of both your vision and eye health. We screen for conditions like glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, and dry eye, many of which can develop gradually without any noticeable symptoms.

We’ll also ask about your lifestyle, medical history, and any vision concerns or symptoms you may have noticed. This information helps us better understand your eye health so we can provide personalized recommendations and a treatment plan tailored to your specific needs.

How often does my family need eye exams?

How often you should schedule an eye exam can vary based on your age, vision needs, medical history, and risk factors. Below are general recommendations:

  • Children: Yearly eye exams are highly recommended for children. Clear vision is essential for a child’s learning, development, and daily activities, and early detection of issues like myopia can improve the effectiveness of treatment.
  • Ages 18–39: Healthy adults without vision concerns or underlying health conditions may only need an eye exam every two years. However, annual exams are typically recommended for patients who wear glasses or contact lenses, have a family history of eye disease, or manage conditions such as diabetes.
  • Ages 40–64: Every two years is still sufficient for low-risk patients, but annually is preferred if you have risk factors or corrective lenses. This is also the stage of life when conditions like glaucoma and macular degeneration become more common, making regular monitoring increasingly important.
  • Ages 65 and older: We recommend annual exams for all patients in this age group. A great deal can change from year to year, and staying current with your eye health at this stage can make a significant difference in long-term outcomes.
